'An icon of the game' - ex-England captain Houghton to retire

Manchester City defender and former England captain Steph Houghton says she will retire at the end of the current Women's Super League season.

Houghton, 35, is part of the City squad aiming to win the WSL title this season.

The centre-back has played almost 150 league games for City since joining from Arsenal in 2014, having started her career at Sunderland and Leeds.

Houghton has 121 England caps but has not played for her country since 2021.
