Chelsea recorded the first win of their Women's Champions League campaign at the second attempt, storming past Paris FC 4-0 to ease their recent goal-scoring worries.

Sonia Bompastor's team had scored only twice from open play in their previous three fixtures but they finally found some bite to turn a dominant display into a resounding victory, blowing away their Premiere Ligue opponents to lay down an early marker in this season's competition.

It was a much-needed win but the manner of the result was equally valuable after the criticism that followed the 1-1 draw with Twente in their opening game.

A contentious penalty gave them the lead after 31 minutes, won by Sjoeke Nüsken and converted by Sandy Baltimore, then Johanna Rytting Kaneryd nodded in a second - a marvellous looping header - before half-time.

Alyssa Thompson made it three to get her first Chelsea goal on her home European debut for the club before Sam Kerr's header was turned in from virtually on the goal line by Erin Cuthbert to complete the rout.

Chelsea were ruthlessly dominant throughout. Paris defender Thea Greboval almost turned Aggie Beever-Jones's cross past her own goalkeeper after 20 minutes, sticking out a foot and belting the ball from six yards straight at Mylene Chavas in a botched attempt to clear.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty just before the half hour. Defender Anaële Le Moguédec trod on the back of Nusken's boot as the ball dropped into the box, thought it appeared to be running away from the Blues midfielder towards the touchline.

A pitchside VAR check persuaded the referee of the home side's case and - from the spot - Baltimore stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way for 1-0.

It was two before half-time and their second was a less-controversial affair.

Thompson burst down the left to collected a deep ball into the channel and after standing up two defenders she crossed to where Rytting Kaneryd was waiting, adjusting her body wonderfully to send an arching header up over Chavas and in.

Beever-Jones then headed Cuthbert's corner against the face of the crossbar as Chelsea threatened to wrap the whole thing up before the interval.

The third goal took less than two minutes of the second half to arrive. Nathalie Björn slipped the ball to Keira Walsh, who drilled it low across the six-yard box.

Beever-Jones poked out a foot and missed it, but racing in behind behind was Thompson arriving at pace to shovel it first-time into the corner.

Kerr made Chelsea's fourth moments after coming on as a substitute, heading a corner straight at the goalkeeper which nevertheless squeezed its way out of Chavas' grasp before being bundled in by Cuthbert.
