A disc jockey, Faith Stevens, popularly known as DJ Electra, organised a charity football match on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, to commemorate the World Epilepsy Day (Purple Day).

The event, which held in Lekki, Lagos State, was tagged ‘Ability vs Disability’, and is aimed at raising awareness about epilepsy while promoting inclusivity for people with disabilities.

Emphasising the need for awareness and encouragement for individuals with epilepsy and other disabilities, Electra said, “We are trying to encourage anyone struggling with epilepsy or any form of disability to believe in themselves, not to let it weigh them down. Those who stigmatise people with disabilities should also stop doing so. It is not an easy thing to battle with, but it is not the end of the world. Believe in yourself. Do your best to support one another.”

Renowned jazz singer, Yinka Davies, also commended DJ Electra for her advocacy, saying, “I thank God for DJ Electra for inviting us to support this great charity. Epilepsy is not a disease, it is just a challenge, and you can always take care of your family, and they can get out of that. All you need to do is just manage it with love; not with anger and ostracising.”

The football match saw two teams competing, with one comprising disabled players. The Disability Team eventually emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over the Ability Team.
