Instagram users are reporting a direct messaging outage, leaving them unable to communicate in the app.
Downdetector, a site that monitors online outages, shows issues began around 7am ET, plaguing Americans in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and other major cities.
The outage has also been reported in the UK, Australia and parts of Europe and Asia.
Users have cited problems with Facebook Messenger.

For Instagram, 62 percent of reported problems cited the app, followed by server connection with 27 percent and sharing with 11 percent.
Downdetector shows 45 percent of Facebook users claimed the website has been hit the hardest, followed by the app (39 percent) and 16 percent of reports cited server connection.
Users flocked to X Tuesday morning to share their frustrations about the outage and to see if others were experiencing similar issues.
'Don't worry it's not just you, Instagram dms are really down,' an X user shared.
Others questioned if the social media platforms were down or if they had been banned from the platforms.
Some even questioned if their account had been hacked.

More than 375 million people use Instagram Direct Messages each month, but how many are experiencing issues amid the outage is unknown.
But Downdetector is showing there are thousands of reports worldwide.
Meta has not acknowledged the outage.
