Instagram plans to shut down a feature that many users have come to love, leaving them 'inconsolable.'
This feature, called Content Notes, allows users to add a note to a post — whether it be a photo, a story, a reel or a carousel — that only their followers can see.
A spokesperson for Instagram told DailyMail.com that they have begun removing the ability to leave a note on a post or real, and people will no longer see or be able to share them on posts 'in the coming weeks.'
Adam Mosseri, the head of the popular social media site, first announced the change in an Instagram reel posted on March 26.
'We launched [Content Notes] a few months ago in an effort to try to make Instagram more social and more fun. And in practice, it just wasn't adopted by that many people,' he explained.
Mosseri added that Instagram has become 'too complicated' over the years, and they are trying to fix that by turning off certain features that are not widely used. But some Instagram users are devastated to see Content Notes go.
'Instagram is taking away notes and I am inconsolable,' one X user posted today.
In a thread, they explained that they are a content creator who uses Content Notes to help get their posts 'noticed.'
Instagram is axing Content Notes, a feature that allows users to add a note to a post that only their followers can see
The content creator explained that putting notes on posts causes notifications to pop up for their followers, which makes may help draw attention to their posts.
These social media professionals rely on engagement to attract the brand partnerships that drive their revenue.
Others are disappointed to lose the Content Notes feature because they use them to show their followers which types of content they prefer.
In other words, if you want your followers to see what you think about a certain post, but you don't want to post a public comment or add it to your story, you can add a note instead.
'Don't do this [Instagram],' one X user posted.
'Notes are cool AF and a good way to let others know the content you prefer other than sharing it on stories.
'Its like the middle ground between good enough but not enough for a story post and that's where notes come handy.'
But despite these outcries, it would appear the average Instagram user has not been making use of Content Notes, which is why the social media platform has decided to get rid of it.
Despite disappointed responses from some Instagram users, it would appear the average person has not been making use of Content Notes
'We're going to continue to explore more ways of making Instagram fun and social, and bring friends out in the experience, but Content Notes isn't it,' Mosseri said.
The Instagram spokesperson DailyMail.com posted confirmed this: 'We do launch features across all our surfaces quite regularly, and plan to iterate and introduce new products that help make Instagram more fun and social.'
When the Content Notes feature first launched, many Instagram users were annoyed by it.
One Reddit user posted: 'It's really annoying. Is there a way to turn it off? There's some much shit clogging up my home feed already, the last thing I want is to see is MORE posts from accounts I don't even follow.'
Many others agreed, including one person who replied: 'Yeah it sucks. It’s enough of a hassle having to turn off suggested posts every 30 days, but this shit doesn’t even have an off button.'
Instagram users who have not been enjoying Content Notes can look forward to it going away soon.
