Bayern Munich scored three second-half goals to ensure they continued their 100 per cent Bundesliga record with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach.

Vincent Kompany's side were made to work for their eight successive league victory but broke the resistance of a resilient Monchengladbach side with three goals in the space of 17 minutes in the second period.

Jens Castrop was given his marching orders which forced Monchengladbach to play 72 minutes with 10 men, and they were looking to nick an unlikely point until Joshua Kimmich broke the deadlock with his first goal of the campaign.

Raphaël Guerreiro doubled the lead shortly after Lennart Karl grabbed his first goal in the Bundesliga to seal the points, just days after he netted his first senior goal for the club.

Bayern almost took the lead inside the very first minute as Nicolas Jackson fed through Luis Díaz, who missed the target.

Monchengladbach's task was made harder when they were reduced to 10 men in the 18th minute.

Castrop was late into a challenge on Diaz and was initially given a yellow card but referee Sascha Stegemann was sent to the VAR screen and upgraded the card to a red.

The hosts still made life difficult for the league leaders, they shared most of the possession but were only able to register four attempts as the half drew to a close.

But Bayern almost got the breakthrough three minutes before the break, Harry Kane has been in devastating form in front of goal but he scuffed an effort towards goal which Moritz Nicolas was equal to.

Back came Bayern after the interval, this time Michael Olise collected a ball from the left and his effort beat Nicolas but Kevin Diks heroically cleared off the line.

The away side thought they finally took the lead just after the hour mark when Kane blasted in from inside the box but the assistant referee's offside flag quickly halted celebrations.

However, Bayern were not to be denied a couple of minutes later.

Serge Gnabry picked out Kimmich who saw his initial shot blocked but the ball fell back to him and he made no mistake at the second attempt to finally break the resistance of the hosts.

Munich doubled their advantage five minutes later - Guerreiro timed his run perfectly onto Olise's pass and he calmly dispatched past Nicholas to make it 2-0.

Monchengladbach had the chance to halve the deficit from the penalty spot as Tom Bischof held Diks back inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Kevin Stöger stepped up and sent Jonas Urbig the wrong way but his spot-kick hit the left post.

And Bayern punished them to bury the contest with a third just six minutes later.

Lennart scored his first Bayern goal in midweek and quickly followed up with his second, with a stunning shot into the top corner.
