Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has revealed that the late Indian rapper Sidhu Moose Wala was his source of inspiration when he was “musically exhausted.”

In an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra on Wednesday, Burna Boy said he was working on a joint project with Moose Wala before the rapper was assassinated in May 2022.

“I was exhausted musically,” Burna Boy said. “I was just like, ‘I need something new.'”

He said he discovered Moose Wala’s music through his fans and was immediately drawn to the rapper’s unique sound.

“I was like, ‘Wow, this is different,'” Burna Boy said. “This is something I haven’t heard before.'”

He said that Moose Wala’s music inspired him to experiment with his own sound and to push the boundaries of his music.

“He made me want to be a better artist,” Burna Boy said.

He said, “He [Sidhu Moose Wala] was one of the biggest inspirations I had at a time when I felt like I’ve already musically done it all. I felt like I’d exhausted myself musically in my head because I was listening to everything and nothing was making sense to me.

“I felt like I’ve already spoken about everything. I already said everything [in songs]. But Sidhu brought another angle to my musicality. He is a legend. The legend of Punjab. There will never be another one.”
