Man arrested for attempted murder after police officer hit by car

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a vehicle was driven at a police officer, leaving her seriously injured.

It happened when the officer responded to reports of suspicious behaviour a retail park on Wilmslow Road, Cheadle, on Saturday evening, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, with the injured officer taken to hospital, GMP said.

Chief Insp John Picton said: "This incident is truly shocking, and shows how quickly situations our frontline officers attend can escalate."
