Manchester United are looking to brush aside the memories of their worst-ever Premier League era campaign as they start preseason ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season with a friendly against traditional foes, and newly promoted side, Leeds United.
United fans will be looking forward to their first sighting of their summer-signing Matheus Cunha (their only major signing so far) while Ruben Amorim will be keen to get his first full season in charge off to a winning start.
United will be without goalkeeper Andre Onana, who has been ruled out of preseason with a hamstring injury. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho are amongst those unlikely to feature amid continued uncertainty over their futures at the club.
Meanwhile, Leeds United are back in the Premier League after two seasons in the championship. Under Daniel Farke, Leeds played an attacking game that saw them accumulate 100 points, and beat Burnley on goal difference. They have strengthened their squad already this summer with the additions of former Manchester City forward Lukas Nmecha, as well as defenders Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Sebastiaan Bournauw.
Jack Harrison has also returned to the club after two seasons on loan at Everton. Mateo Joseph, Brenden Aaronson and Wilfried Gnonto had extended international seasons going into mid-June and joined the squad late and are unlikely to feature.
