The news has not gone down well on social media, with one user calling it the 'end of an era'.

The PlayStation 3 was released in November 2006, with more than 87 million devices sold over its lifetime.

Taking to Reddit, many users explained their disappointment at the removal of Netflix after all this time.

'Netflix on ps3 was the only way I could still share Netflix to my dad even though we live in different country,' one user said.

'No ads and no location service made the PS3 the perfect way to watch Netflix.'

Another added: 'Ps3 is my go to when watching netflix, I can't really watch it another way, know this sounds ridicilous but there are reasons.

'So now I'm a bit sad, but I'm surprised it lasted this long.'

And one vented: 'No f***ing way. Ps3 is my crt netflix machine! What do i do now.'

Smart TVs that are more than 10 years old will also be losing support for Netflix, according to Flatpanels HD, alongside various set–top boxes including the BT TV Box (Z4) and the BT TV Recordable Box (G4).
