More than 6 000 pupils in the Free State are aged between 20 and 30, according to statistics seen by News24.

At least 3 233 pupils are aged 20, while 1 589 are 21 years old and 717 are 22 years old.

The compulsory schooling age in South Africa is 7 to 15 years (Grades 1 to 9). A pupil who is more than two years older than the age group norm for a specific grade is classified as being over-age.
