  • The newly appointed provincial task team in Gauteng wants to rebuild branches after the party lost its majority in the 2024 general elections.
  • The provincial task team held its first meeting this week.
  • The task team agreed to a short programme of action.

After the loss of its majority in the 2024 general elections, the ANC in Gauteng is pulling out all the stops to rebuild branches.

At its first meeting this week, the restructured provincial task team (PTT) laid out its plan for the way forward. It includes auditing and renewing lapsed memberships.

ANC Gauteng spokesperson Mzi Khumalo said the PTT's working committee agreed to immediately implement tasks in line with the mandate received from the party's national executive committee.

Khumalo added:

The [PTT] further agreed to lead a short-term yet impactful programme of action that should be implemented over the next six months until the end of September 2025.

The programme of action includes implementing the ANC lekgotla resolutions, interacting with all sectors in Gauteng and interacting with ANC caucuses to enforce discipline, among all deployees towards service delivery and organisational work.

Khumalo added that Amos Masondo, who is the co-convenor of the PTT along with Panyaza Lesufi, would guide at least four regions that are due for elective conferences. One of the regions said to have adopted a "roadmap to conference" is the Greater Johannesburg region.

"All branches, through regions, will be provided with a template which we will use to monitor the rollout of the programme. Branches will be expected to detail the nature of the recruitment drive and renewal programme which should be well canvassed at branch executive committee or branch task team meetings as a minimum requirement," he said.

This process will start on 31 March and continue until 25 April.

"All branches should be focus on renewal as it has a direct bearing on the constitutional status of members who can participate in branch biennial general meetings and preparations for conferences," Khumalo added.
