Angry residents of Alexandra, Johannesburg, blocked streets on Tuesday afternoon in protest over prolonged power outages that left some residents without electricity since Sunday.

Residents barricaded London Road between 13th and 20th Avenue with burning tyres and rocks after a fault at major substations left many parts of the area in the dark.

Johannesburg metro police officers were deployed to the area to restore calm while diverting traffic.
