News24 | Back to prison for six Frans Mathipa murder accused as State’s bail appeal upheld

1 month ago 10

The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has upheld the State’s appeal against the decision to grant bail to Special Forces soldiers charged with Frans Mathipa’s murder.

The Hawks colonel was gunned down on the N1 highway in August 2023.

His murder is believed to have been linked to his investigations of the December 2022 abduction of Abdella Hussein Abadiga and Kadir Jemal Abotese.

The soldiers before the court are also accused of the kidnapping and murder of the two men.

Each of the accused was granted R10 000 bail in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court last July.

The State took that decision on appeal, and on Friday, Acting Judge William Karam reversed it for six of the 12 accused and made changes to the others’ bail conditions.
