A bedridden elderly woman nearly drowned in her Kariega home on Saturday, when persistent rain led to severe floods in Nelson Mandela Bay at the weekend and claimed several lives, including that of a baby girl.
The 96-year-old woman was at home with her caretaker on Saturday when the house was destroyed within minutes.
Her niece, Najmunnisa Jeeva, spoke with News24 on Monday on condition her aunt's name not be published.
