The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is concerned that the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape missed its deadline to move about 300 people living in dire conditions at the Stoney Drift informal settlement in East London.
The commission said on Monday that the dignity of the residents, some of whom have been living in the area for decades, is being violated.
They do not have reliable access to water and electricity.
