More than 500 babies had been born across the country by midday on Christmas Day, according to the national Department of Health.
Department spokesperson Foster Mohale said most of the babies, almost 40%, were born in Gauteng, with KwaZulu-Natal taking the second spot.
The Northern Cape was the first to welcome a new arrival with the birth of a baby girl at Galeshewe Day Hospital at midnight.
