Overall trust and satisfaction in government and public services has decreased since 2019/20, according to the second installation of Census 2023.

The level of trust in government and public institutions is waning, and the proportion of people who rated these services as satisfactory also declined in most institutions between 2019/20 and 2022/23.
This is the finding of the Governance, Public Safety and Justice Survey, which forms part of the Stats SA national census data.
Stats SA surveyed people aged 16 and older to understand how the public perceives government institutions. The survey compared 15 of these institutions.
