Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi criticised the city for its request to decentralise disaster relief funding and transfer it to municipalities.

National Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has lashed out at the City of Cape Town over its calls for disaster relief funding to be decentralised and transferred to municipalities.

The city wrote to Kubayi requesting the decentralising of emergency housing funding to enable it to fund the issuing of shelter materials such as flood and fire kits. 

An irate Kubayi told News24 that the city has not been able to supply fire kits to communities.
