City of Cape Town officials removed offensive graffiti.

The City of Cape Town's Law Enforcement removed offensive antisemitic graffiti sprayed along the Sea Point promenade on Saturday.

It included: "Holocaust, Oct '23", and, "I stand with Genocide".

Conflict between Israel and Palestine is at an all-time high after Hamas launched a surprise attack in southern Israel, killing more than 1 000 people and injuring scores more last weekend.

Israel retaliated by launching deadly airstrikes on Gaza.

Sea Point's ward councillor, Nicola Jowell, said: "It cannot be that City infrastructure and public spaces, used by all South Africans, are defaced in this way."

The Cape SA Jewish Board of Deputies condemned the antisemitic graffiti - and thanked the City for its quick response.

"Regardless of your views and beliefs, there is no justification for this kind of hatred, antisemitism and acts of inciting violence. We call on all South Africans to unite against hate and work towards peace for each and every one of us," the board said.

Jowell said no arrests had been made.

The incident followed hundreds of Palestinian supporters taking to the streets of Cape Town in support of Palestine, urging the South African government to cut ties with Israel.
