Days after declaring its support for a "progressive opposition caucus" in Parliament, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa expressed his desire to join the government of national unity (GNU), should the ANC iron out three issues.

In a letter to ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, Holomisa communicated the party's reservations about the basic minimum programme of priorities as well as the modalities of the GNU.

Five parties have so far signed the GNU's statement of intent: The DA, ANC, IFP, GOOD and the Patriotic Alliance (PA).
