With only a week left before the 400 members of Parliament choose the country's next president, the ANC is scrambling to meet with as many of the 18 parties represented in the National Assembly as possible to secure President Cyril Ramaphosa's re-election.

News24 understands the ANC has set up office at a hotel in Johannesburg and invited opposition leaders over the weekend for confidential coalition talks. The DA's negotiation team met the ANC on Saturday in what was described as a "positive" meeting. This happened after the DA released its coalitions framework to the ANC on Friday.

The talks happened behind a veil of secrecy, with nobody from either party willing to share details of the state of negotiations.
