Convicted killer Zaheera Boomgaard, 64, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for two murders she committed in 2020.
Boomgaard appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Friday, where Judge John Holland-Muter handed down the sentence.
In March 2020, Boomgaard murdered British national Harry Nathvani, 72. His smouldering body was found in De Deur, Vereeniging, Gauteng, on 11 March 2020. There were signs of strangulation and blunt force trauma injuries.
After his death, Boomgaard used Nathvani’s bank cards at different shops, including a R10 000 purchase at a Builders Warehouse. She also made several cash withdrawals ranging from R4 000 to R5 000.
Before Nathvani went missing, he visited Boomgaard at her home in Albertville, Johannesburg, after the two had met online.
Months later, Boomgaard took the life of her supposed church friend, Lynette Mustapha, 72. Her body was found on 8 August 2020, about 4km from where Nathvani had been dumped. She was murdered in a similar manner and set alight.
Boomgaard doctored Mustapha’s will, making herself the sole beneficiary.
Boomgaard was also accused of the 2012 murder of John Naisby, 83, but was acquitted.
