A 27-year-old man has been released on R5 000 after he knocked down two cyclists in Simon's Town last week.

Dewald van der Westhuizen's family is enraged the SA Navy man accused of knocking him down is not in jail, but their son is in hospital undergoing multiple surgeries.

Van der Westhuizen, 26, was cycling behind his coach, Mike Moriarty, 57, when a speeding white VW Polo knocked them to the ground.

Garth Ronald Pasha, 27, was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and attempted murder.
