Six people died when a taxi crashed into a house in O Street, Makhanda, in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
The Makana Local Municipality said it appeared that the vehicle's brakes had failed.
The taxi driver and four passengers, including a municipal employee, died at the scene. A teenage pedestrian was also declared dead at the scene.
