The Eastern Cape government has activated disaster management teams to provide relief to communities affected by flooding, mostly in East London and Gqeberha.
At least nine people died - seven in Gqeberha and two in East London - while others are presumed to have drowned in the floods that hit the province on Sunday morning.
More than 2 000 people's homes were destroyed in Duncan Village, Stoney Drift, Mzamomhle and Mdantsane in East London.
