A 27-year-old woman from the Nonyevu area in the Eastern Cape town of Port St Johns is facing a charge of murder after the body of her 11-month-old baby girl was found wrapped in a towel and dumped in bushes close to where she lives.

Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo said the gruesome discovery was made on Friday by a man who had gone into the bushes to answer a call of nature.

"He found the baby in a refuse bag [and] alerted the community members. The mother was [then] traced," said Matyolo.
