
The SAPS have confirmed a murder and attempted murder docket has been opened following the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old woman and also injuring a 31-year-old woman.
Eastern Cape police are on the hunt for a man who opened fire on an e-hailing vehicle in East London on Wednesday night, killing a woman and wounding another.
The shooting took place in Amalinda, spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi said on Thursday.
“The SAPS can confirm that a murder and attempted murder docket have been opened following the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old woman and also injuring a 31-year-old woman who were passengers in [an e-hailing vehicle],” said Mbi.
The incident happened around 18:40.
Mbi said the women were seated in the back of the vehicle when the gunman peppered the vehicle with bullets.
“It is alleged that an unknown gunman approached this vehicle, opened fire and fled away. The motive for the shooting forms part of the continuing investigation,” said Mbi.

The injured woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
He added that the e-hailing driver was not harmed during the incident.
According to an eyewitness, who did not want to be named out of fear of being targeted, the incident happened on the Amalinda main road.
“A man walked across the road and opened fire into a vehicle that was picking up the two ladies. He then ran away. This happened in full view of people,” said the eyewitness.
