Troubled municipalities in the Western Cape were flagged for having water systems in critical condition.
Eight water supply systems in the Western Cape are in critical condition, according to the Blue Drop Report, which assesses the state of all drinking water systems in South Africa.
According to the report released on Tuesday by Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu, three water supply systems had poor microbiological compliance and five systems had bad microbiological water quality status.
The report added that the water in these systems posed a serious health risk to the communities.
