In a close vote in the motion of no-confidence debate to remove eThekwini metro ANC Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda, the ruling party and its smaller allies voted to keep him in the position.
The DA had called for a secret ballot for the motion to unseat Kaunda - which was brought by the IFP - but this request was swatted away and 209 councillors voted by show of hands.
