A woman in her early thirties was shot and killed in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng.

A woman in her early thirties was shot and killed in Vanderbijlpark on Friday morning, Gauteng police said. 

Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the woman died after she was shot by an unknown assailant in her car at 08:00.

It is unclear if the shooter was alone or with accomplices. 

"The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage," Masondo said.

The Sedibeng Ster reported the incident happened at the traffic lights adjacent to Curro and North West University, Vaal Campus.

Paramedics who responded to the scene declared her dead.

Vanderbijlpark police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto urged residents to share information with the authorities and to abstain from spreading photos of the crime scene.
