Cape Town police confiscated counterfeit goods worth more than R100 million.

Efforts to clamp down on the illegal trade of counterfeit goods have resulted in Western Cape police confiscating truckloads of fake clothing, watches, perfumes, shoes, handbags, and other apparel worth an estimated street value of more than R100 million in Bellville.

On Wednesday, an integrated operation by the police, Customs and Excise, and brand protectors from various popular products swooped in with a search warrant at the shopping complex close to the Bellville taxi rank in Cape Town.

Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said when the police arrived, shopkeepers abandoned their stores and fled the scene.
