Mohau Orphanage and Disabled Home, once a beacon of hope that was
honoured by former presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma for aiding
abandoned children and adults with special needs, has now been forgotten and
left to scramble to make ends meet.
The orphanage in Vosloorus, Gauteng, was established by Mamohau Ntsoane in 1974 to cater for four children with disabilities. It currently has in its care 25 orphaned children living with mental and physical disabilities.
Ntsoane also assisted the ANC during apartheid, which led to her being recognised by the former statesmen for her work in the community.
