With the latest of four disaster declarations in hand, the Eastern Cape says it's still waiting for relief funding to the tune of more than R6.3 billion – and the slow payout is hampering its efforts to rebuild.
Eastern Cape Cogta department spokesperson Pheello Oliphant said the province experienced "back-to-back disasters".
He said the cost of unfunded damage in the province amounted to R6.3 billion, a price tag that excludes the damages caused by severe weather and storm surges in September.
