The South African Police Service is investigating a multi-vehicle crash on the N4 toll road in Mpumalanga on Sunday, where four people died.
Four women were killed on Sunday in a multi-vehicle crash on the N4 toll road between Malelane and Hectorspruit in Mpumalanga.
The collision involved two hatchbacks, a light delivery vehicle, and an articulated truck. The victims were all occupants of one of the hatchbacks, which collided head-on with the delivery vehicle. A fifth person in the same hatchback sustained serious injuries.
In the second hatchback, the driver and four passengers suffered minor injuries. All those injured in the crash were transported to Shongwe Hospital for medical treatment.
According to a statement from the Mpumalanga provincial government, the crash is under investigation by the safety engineering team in the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the South African Police Service, and the Road Traffic Management Corporation.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, has again called on motorists to exercise caution.

“Let us all use the road cautiously to avoid these deadly crashes. We must obey the rules. It is very devastating for other people to lose their lives due to the reckless behaviour of other drivers on the road,” he said.
Macie also extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
