Thundershowers are expected in most parts of the country, but warm to hot conditions are expected in the Western Cape, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

Impact-based warnings

Be aware of severe weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday. Here’s what to prepare for:

KwaZulu-Natal: Yellow level 4 warning - Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning, and hail are expected. This may cause flooding of roads, low-lying areas, and settlements, with potential damage to property, infrastructure, vehicles, agricultural production, and livestock. Life-threatening fast-flowing water is a risk.

North West, Free State, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Limpopo: Yellow level 2 warning - Severe thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of roads and bridges, large amounts of small hail, and damage to infrastructure.

In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
