Two people died after a blaze destroyed more than 100 homes in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Sunday night.

A recent fire in Khayelitsha was one of the more than 2 400 blazes that break out in informal settlements in Cape Town every year.

But the response to these fires, and the rebuilding afterwards, can cost thousands of rands – with much of the burden carried by ratepayers and generous donors.
