The bodies of four men who were shot dead were found at Overcome Heights in Muizenberg, Cape Town, on Wednesday morning.

“While gangsterism has not been ruled out as a possible motive, investigators are pursuing all lines of enquiry in an effort to bring those responsible to justice,” police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said.

“Detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit are working tirelessly to determine the events that led to the incident,” he added.

News24 previously reported that 24 people had been killed in eight shootings in July.

• On 3 July, five men were killed and seven others injured in Mitchells Plain. Just hours later, another two were killed in the same area.
• On 8 July, a gunman opened fire on a group of teenagers in Philippi East, killing one and wounding three.
• On 13 July, four people, including an 80-year-old woman, were shot dead in a home in Bishop Lavis.
• On 16 July, three people were killed and two were injured in New Crossroads, Gugulethu. This came less than a month after a shooting claimed seven lives in Gugulethu.
• On 20 July, two people were killed in a Lentegeur shooting, and one person was injured.
