The Eastern Cape government said three of the 43 firearms confiscated from taxi operators and guards in Mthatha over the weekend were directly linked to a deadly shooting incident which claimed the lives of three people in the Ntywenka Village of Nqanqarhu.
The firearms were seized by police at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, where 14 taxi operators were under heavy guard after being injured during violent clashes between two warring taxi associations.
At the centre of the violence was a dispute over routes between the Uncedo Service Taxi Association and the Border Alliance Taxi Association (BATA).
