The Master's Office has been the victim of a cyber attack.

Two people were arrested for holding an electronic payment system to ransom with demands that they be paid in US dollars converted to Bitcoin, the Hawks said on Friday.

Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi said early indications were that it was an inside job between a current and former employee of Ecentric, which is an Omni payment solution service that processes online and in-store purchases. 

The investigation showed software was loaded onto Ecentric's system, allowing remote access.
