A man sentenced to life in prison for murdering a 12-year-old boy during a drug deal in Athlone has lost his appeal.

A Cape Town man sentenced to life in prison for murdering a 12-year-old boy when he opened fire on a house during a drug purchase in Athlone failed in his bid to challenge his conviction and sentence in the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA).
Jerome Cupido was found guilty of murdering 12-year-old Asheeq Mitchell during a drug purchase at a house on 26 April 2018.
According to the judgment, two men pulled up in a Nissan bakkie at the house of Ashraf Mitchell, also known as Tony, in Athlone that night to buy drugs from a Mr Brown, who was selling them allegedly on behalf of Mitchell.
