The family of a KwaZulu-Natal nurse who was hijacked and robbed before being shot dead this week says his "community has been robbed of a hero".
Mthembeni Nyathikazi, 39, was travelling back from an outreach programme in Ndwedwe when he was hijacked and killed by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane confirmed the attack, saying: "The perpetrators held him at gunpoint before taking his belongings, including mobile phones, before driving in … the state vehicle."
