Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has fired the starting gun on his bid for federal leader of the Democratic Alliance, announcing his candidacy in Elsies River, Cape Town on Friday.
This after outgoing leader John Steenhuisen announced that he would not seek re-election at the upcoming congress, clearing the runway for Hill-Lewis to contest – potentially unopposed – for the party’s top position.
News24 understands that Hill-Lewis’ campaign machine is already humming.
He has, however, told those close to him that should he win, he would seek to remain the Cape Town mayor.
