As the air crew on FlySafair Flight FA212 chanted, "brace, brace brace!", passengers bowed their heads and hung onto the seat rests in front as the plane shuddered and shook.

Dramatic footage of the attendants preparing passengers for an emergency landing was recorded inside the plane that had been en route to Cape Town on Sunday, but returned to Johannesburg following concerns of damage to a wheel during take-off.

Emergency vehicles gathered on the runway, but the aircraft, which had left OR Tambo International Airport just after 11.30, landed without incident at 14:06.
