Scores of residents fed up with spending yet another festive holiday period without access to the public swimming pool in Langa, Cape Town, broke into the facility last week to swim.
The mayoral committee member for community services and health, Patricia van der Ross, said residents and children displayed "impatience", leading to "some unruly behaviour".
"The situation prompted us to instruct residents to evacuate the facility due to concerns about trespassing and, more critically, the need [to prevent possible] drowning," added Van der Ross.
