A witness testifying about how Nafiz Modack "went out of his way" to try to recover a lost investment for him begged the Western Cape High Court on Monday to investigate the asset manager he had entrusted his money to.

The trial of Modack and his co-accused resumed on Monday in the Western Cape High Court, where the State is pursuing charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion and intimidation, among other charges.

The central charge is the murder of Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear, but currently the State is dealing with an incident where an asset manager from Claremont reported to police that he had been lured into a meeting with Modack's co-accused, Jacques Cronje, and forced to sign an acknowledgement of debt to repay the failed investment capital, plus handling fees.
