The smiles of a Johannesburg man and the conduct of his co-accused girlfriend when they appeared in court for the murder of 19-year-old Evaton woman, Relebohile Mofokeng, angered the teen's family on Thursday.

"They know that our justice is very weak. They don't fear it. No wonder they were so happy in court," said Mpho Mofokeng, the 24-year-old sister of the teenager, who was killed, it is alleged, through the use of a torture technique called tubing that causes suffocation.

"When he (the man) turned and looked at the gallery and smiled, I asked myself if he would be convicted for taking away my sister's life. At first, I was confident that justice would prevail when I heard last week that he had been arrested."
