Amid attempts to get to the bottom of fraud allegations against Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Gary van Niekerk, the investigative committee established to probe the matter is now caught up in a power struggle.

Due to in-fighting among some of the councillors on the committee, which comprises all the political parties in the metro, the investigation has already faced numerous delays.

Its establishment was approved in a council meeting last week.
