  • Cape Town residents have been warned of hot temperatures over the next two days.
  • The SA Weather Service also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions.
  • People have been urged to stay hydrated and avoid the outdoors.

If you're in Cape Town, get out your sunhats and sunscreen because the Mother City is heading for a scorcher.

This after the SA Weather Service warned of extremely hot temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Khai-Ma Municipality in the Northern Cape, [as well as the] Matzikama, Cederberg and Bergrivier municipalities in the Western Cape, and over the Dawid Kruiper Municipality in the Northern Cape," the SAWS said.

Temperatures are expected to hover between 30°C and 40°C for the metropole and other parts of the province over the next two days.

The City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Centre has advised the public to take the following precautions to mitigate any potential health and general safety impacts:

  • Avoid the outdoors if possible.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Keep a particularly close eye on the elderly, people who have serious health conditions and young children.
  • Make sure your pets have access to shady areas and lots of clean water

The City also advised residents take the following precautions:

  • Don't make fires in the open or leave fires unattended.
  • Don't throw cigarette butts out of cars or in the open veld.
  • Don't throw bottles in the veld, as they can magnify the sun's rays and start fires.

In the case of a large fire, report it immediately and move away from the area.
