- Blood found on a pillow at Tiffany Nicole Meek’s apartment was central to the court proceedings in her bail application.
- Meek’s lawyer argued that it could have stemmed from nosebleeds her son, Jayden-Lee, experienced.
- According to test results, the blood on the pillow was Jayden-Lee’s, and police are still waiting for results of tests conducted on a bedsheet.
Blood found on a pillow in Tiffany Nicole Meek’s apartment, which was recovered as evidence in the investigation into the murder of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek, became a focal point in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
When murder-accused Meek’s lawyer, Noven Naidoo, cross-examined the investigating officer, Sergeant Nceba Diko, during her bail hearing, he focused on critical blood evidence found at the scene.
Naidoo asked Diko whether he could say whether it was fresh blood.
He added that Jayden-Lee suffered from frequent nosebleeds and that it could have been blood from months ago.
“The accused will come and testify that Jayden suffered from nosebleeds and his nose used to bleed during the night or especially on a hot day.
“The last nosebleed was in December 2024. The blood could have been there from six months prior,” Naidoo said.

In response, Diko said: “I am not an expert, but if you are a human being looking after your things, there are ways to clean that blood [if it was from months ago].”
He added that the correct people would come and testify at a later stage.
He admitted that he had not personally seen the pillow on the day in question. He only saw it when the pillow was booked into evidence.
“I never went close to the flat because there were already officers processing the scene. I never saw the pillow. I took the witness and left,” he said.

Naidoo further argued that, according to Meek, various witnesses, including community activists, could confirm that they failed to see any pillow being removed from the scene.
He also told the court that his client confirmed all the pillows in her home were covered in pillowcases.
“Was the pillowcase ever recovered?” Naidoo asked. Diko said he was unaware of the recovery of a pillowcase.
Diko also confirmed that the tests matched the blood on the pillow to Jayden-Lee.
Police also recovered a blood-stained bed sheet, but are still awaiting results of tests conducted on it, the court heard.
The bail application continues.
